Hand, Foot, AND Mouth... oh my
Both Rudy and Bella have hand, foot, and mouth disease. It is nothing like Foot and Mouth or Hoof and Mouth, or Mad Cow's disease.
Anyway there is the possibility that we will all get it before it is over. One of the symptoms is excessive drooling, hence Rudy's shirt. He has to change shirts about every hour or so. I would just leave him out of a shirt but I can't imagine it feels much better to have running slobber all over your chest.
I spoke with my mother-in-law, Kaylene, and she said she thinks Danny has had it before.
I really hope he has so that he doesn't get it again. It has an incubation period of 2-6 days and then can last from a few days up to 10 and sometimes even 2 weeks. Plus babies are still contagious afterwards through their diapers.
It's going to be along couple of weeks. I just wish that if we are all going to get it that it would hit the kids all at once and then me once they are in school. I can miss the first week of classes as far as I know so I should be okay at that point and then I can just sleep all day instead of trying to comfort sick kids as well.
There is nothing worse than being sick as a mom (well I'm sure there is, but you know how I like exaggeration and extremism, so go with it). There is no one to take care of you because someone still has to work and make money so you don't get behind financially, and someone still has to take care of the kids. Then when Danny gets home, he takes care of the kids so I am generally on my own because that is a full time job to get them fed and to sleep.
I know our husband's would wait on us hand and foot when we are sick if they were able to, but it's when I'm sick that I miss my own mom the most.
Anyway, I'm still going to try to get my 60 miles in this week. I am going to try and do 12 a day so if I do get sick later in the week I will be ahead.
So keeps us in your thoughts, send good vibes that we make it through the hand, foot, and mouth, epidemic of 2010... I can only imagine what putting four kids in school/child care for the first time will bring about. I imagine we will spend August 16th-October in the doctor's office. I just hope they build up their immunity fast so in the next few years they are sick less and less.
