I've been working real hard this week on getting my 60 miles done. Unfortunately since the kids are sick, I've had to miss two days. It is really hard going to the gym around 8 in the evening after taking care of sick kids all day and staying up late with a crying baby.
Hopefully they will all be better by Monday and we will be able to go to the gym at a normal time and all together.
Since I have only done 34 of the 60 miles, and I'm not riding 26 miles tomorrow, I have re-evaluated the whole situation.
Sure at some point I might be able to make up the 10-16 miles I'll be lacking from this week (I'm not quite certain how far I will ride tomorrow), but there will be plenty of times in the near future when I might have to skip out again. I try my hardest to go, but with the kids enrolling in school/pre-school in the next few weeks, we are bound to have more sick days, which means I might very well get sick too!
Anyway, I will try to make them up, but for now I am altering my goal.
My original goal was to complete 1297 miles before my birthday on Jan 31st. Then I decided to try and get all 1297 miles done by December 12th (the day after the last day of the semester).
Now I think my goal will be to finish 1000 miles by December 11th, and having finished 214 miles already (but we will say 225 since I will probably do 11 tomorrow and that's a nice round number) so subtract 225 from 1000 and you get 775. Divide by 18 weeks equals 43.05 miles a week, round up to 45 and divide by 6 days a week I will ride, and you get 7.5 miles a day. Which might not seem like a huge difference, but it is much more manageable.
I also know that I will probably do more like 10 a day still, but at least I will have a mileage cushion incase I or something else gets sick.
I'm still working on losing those 2 lbs a week and I'm proud to say that I believe I will have reached my goal tomorrow (unless water retention plays a factor... kwim? sorry TMI I know). I have already lost 1.6 lbs since last week and I have lost some inches as well (but only from doing ab work which is tightening my abs).
So those are the changes to my goals.
Even if I only get in 45 miles this week, it will still be pretty awesome to know I've gone 90 miles in 14 days.
Might seem like a short distance when you compare it to a car, but 10 miles on a bike at one time is no joke, at least not to a mom of 4 with back problems like myself.... ok, ok, and I'm a little fat right now too, but I'm changing that ;)
So keep me motivated!

wow! you are doing great! keep up the good work! soon you'll be as skinny as me, but more healthy!
ReplyDeleteI've never done the bike. How long does 10 miles take? Not going super speed, but like beginner speed? I would be crazy sore after.
ReplyDelete@ Ginanne, one could only hope I'll become as skinny as you!
ReplyDelete@ Tammy, I think most people could easily do a 4 minute mile on the bike. 40 minutes would be an average time (I'm guessing).
One of my best times was 9 miles in 29 minutes (about a 18.6 mph)
Today I did 11 miles in 38 minutes (about 17.36 mph)
A 4 minute mile would be 15 mph.
Anyway, the 9 miles in 29 minutes was pretty difficult for me, though that could also have something to do with my attention span and my butt going numb. I might also need to up the intensity on the bike in order to go faster... or lower it or something, I don't know. I use a level 5 and that works fine for me. Just make sure to stretch.
